The Support Services Division consists of the Records Unit, the Communications Unit, the Property and Evidence/Quartermaster Unit, the Information/Technology Unit, the Fleet Services Section, the Court Liaison/Off-Duty Unit, the Building Maintenance Section, and the Honor Guard Detail.

The Division’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing departmental employees a healthy, clean and operationally effective facility to work in, while managing capital improvement projects.  Ensuring that court related notices of appearance are distributed in an expeditious and efficient manner,  ensuring the timely entry and access to incident reports, arrest affidavits, and traffic crash reports for investigators and the general public, and responding in a prompt and professional manner to public records requests.  Also,  monitoring the Personalized Patrol Vehicle Program (PPPV), providing the technology and support needed for the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Mobile Video Recorders (MVR), and Computer Generated, Mobile Field Reporting (MFR) systems in use by the Department, as well as for the general use of the computer by all personnel, providing the radio dispatch and complaint reception services for the City of Miami Gardens, providing for the acceptance, security, storage, and transportation of property and evidence, ensuring that all personnel are properly equipped in order to perform their duties and to meet the needs of the Department and the City, ensuring that all off-duty details are staffed in order to provide this service to our Business Community, ensuring that all funds received by the Department are accurately accounted for and deposited,  and responding to all requests from the Chief of Police in order to enhance our image and service to the community.

Communications Unit

The Communications Unit is staffed by a Communications Manager, two supervisors, and sixteen support personnel (dispatchers and call takers).  The Communications Unit Manager reports to the Training Captain.

The Communications Unit consists of a Unit Supervisor, and is budgeted for 18 dispatcher/call taker positions.  The Communications Unit has a myriad of responsibilities and functions, they include; call taking, dispatching, FCIC/NCIC teletype, validations, and evidence custodian for audio transcripts.  Primary dispatch responsibility for the Miami Gardens Police Department is handled in-house for emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Calls for service are received via in-coming phone calls as well as the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) providing radio dispatch to us for any priority 911 calls received.  A review of reports indicates the Miami Gardens Police Department can anticipate approximately 120,000 calls for service this calendar year with approximately 10,000 of those being of an emergency nature.  In addition to calls for service, FCIC/NCIC entries are averaging 240 per month or approximately 2,880 entries for the calendar year. This number does not include any stolen, wanted or missing entries that the officers may encounter and recover.  Calls for service, whether received by phone or Municipal radio from MDPD, will be evaluated and classified according to information provided. After completion of the prioritization of the call, the appropriate resources will be assigned either by computer or a unit selected by the dispatcher.  Public Information requests as well as requests from the State Attorney’s Office for radio and/or phone transcripts will be recorded and processed by the Communications Manager. 

Records Unit

The Records Unit is staffed by a Unit Supervisor and four records clerks.  The Records Unit has the responsibility for; receiving, reviewing, and processing of incident and accident reports, retrieving of active and inactive incident and accident reports via computer or hard copy, preparing and providing copies of incident and accident reports in accordance with the law and departmental policy and collecting fees for research costs where appropriate, receiving and handling telephone and correspondence queries. providing counter service to the general public during limited hours, providing counter service to law enforcement agency representatives during operational hours, providing expeditious handling of all motions, notices and court orders for expunction or sealed requests, ensuring that all monies received from sale of reports and services are accurately inventoried and deposited, receiving and entering arrest form reports and providing UCR coding, receiving and scanning property continuation forms, as well as all other pertinent paper submitted, forwarding of all reports and related material to MDPD for their follow-up investigation, as provided for in our contractual agreement for the same, ensuring that all case numbers issued by the CAD have an associated report, and ensuring compliance with all State and Federal laws pertaining to records retention and dissemination.

Information Technology

The Information Technology Unit is staffed by three IT representatives, working under the City’s Information and Technology Department, but assigned on site to the Police Department.  In addition, a Police Sergeant works in accord with the IT personnel.  This Sergeant also has the responsibility for the Police Department’s Vehicle Fleet and handheld radios.

The Information Technology Unit is responsible for Police Department’s communication and security of the computer systems and Public Safety Software (OSSI).  In addition, the Unit will maintain all computers and technology used by the Police Department, to include all desktop and laptop computers, and servers housed within the Police Department.  Unit personnel at the Police Department will respond to emergencies dealing with Public Safety software and hardware.  The Unit will handle any current or future needs regarding the implementation of technology for the Police Department, including any matters relating to the Mobile Video Recorders contained within the marked police vehicles.  Lastly, the Unit will handle any matters relating to telecommunications, including hardwire and cellular communications.

Property and Evidence Unit/Fleet management

The Support Services Division is also responsible for all of the Department's physical facilities, vehicles, equipment and supplies, as well as the storage of all impounded property and evidence.
Among the unit's duties are the purchasing and distribution of equipment such as uniforms, office supplies and other consumable items through its Quartermaster operations.
Fleet management is a section within the Support Services Division and it is the responsibility of a Police Fleet Sergeant to coordinate assignment and maintenance of all police vehicles, including the L3 video camera system contained within each of our patrol vehicles.
One of the most sensitive functions of this Division is safeguarding evidence such as narcotics, cash and weapons. In performing this function, the Property and Evidence Unit (PEU) goes to great lengths to guarantee the highest possible standards of accountability and security. 

Court Liaison/Off-Duty Coordinator

This position is currently staffed by one non-sworn person.  This individual is charged with the coordination of the E-Notify Position currently utilized by Miami-Dade County, which electronically transmits court notifications.  In addition, paper notifications are also coordinated by this individual.

This position is also charged with the coordination of all off-duty employment of police personnel within the City of Miami Gardens, and as such is responsible for the accurate accounting of funds received for this service.  It is the policy of the City that all off-duty jobs be prepaid by the person/business requesting the service, prior to the initiation of the service.  It is imperative that this individual be cognizant of all the related policies of both their responsibilities.

Facilities Maintenance Worker

This individual is charged with all the aspects associated with the care and maintenance of the interior of the Police Station.
